چکیده

We study the behaviour of the solutions of the stationary diffusion equation as a function of a possibly rough (L8-) diffusivity. This includes the boundary behaviour of the solution maps, associating to each diffusivity the solution corresponding to some fixed source function, when the diffusivity approaches infinite values in parts of the medium. In n-dimensions, n ¥ 1, by assuming a weak notion of convergence on the set of diffusivities, we prove the strong sequential continuity of the solution maps. In 1-dimension, we prove a stronger result, i.e., the unique extendability of the map of solution operators, associating to each diffusivity the corresponding solution operator, to a sequentially continuous map in the operator norm on a set containing ‘diffusivities’ assuming infinite values in parts of the medium. In this case, we also give explicit estimates on the convergence behaviour of the map. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000) 35J25, 47F05, 65J10, 65N99.

Finite integration method with RBFs for solving time-fractional convection-diffusion equation with variable coefficients

In this paper, a modification of finite integration method (FIM) is combined with the radial basis function (RBF) method to solve a time-fractional convection-diffusion equation with variable coefficients. The FIM transforms partial differential equations into integral equations and this creates some constants of integration. Unlike the usual FIM, the proposed method computes constants of integ...

On the characterization of asymptotic cases of the diffusion equation with rough coefficients and applications to preconditioning

We consider the diffusion equation in the setting of operator theory. In particular, we study the characterization of the limit of the diffusion operator for diffusivities approaching zero on a subdomain Ω1 of the domain of integration of Ω. We generalize Lions’ results to covering the case of diffusivities which are piecewise C up to the boundary of Ω1 and Ω2, where Ω2 : Ω zΩ1 instead of piece...

Introduced a Modified Set of Boundary Condition of Lattice Boltzmann Method Based on Bennett extension in Presence of Buoyancy Term Considering Variable Diffusion Coefficients

Various numerical boundary condition methods have been proposed to simulate various aspects of the no-slip wall condition using the Lattice Boltzmann Method. In this paper, a new boundary condition scheme is developed to model the no-slip wall condition in the presence of the body force term near the wall which is based on the Bennett extension. The error related to the new model is smaller tha...

Estimation of Hydrodynamic Force on Rough Circular Cylinders in Random Waves and Currents (RESEARCH NOTE)

Most of the Codes of Practice (API, BSI, DnV, NPD) uses Morison's equation to estimate hydrodynamic loads on fixed and moving offshore structures. The significant difference in the prediction of the loads mainly arises from the assumption of the values of hydrodynamic coefficients. In this paper by analysing a full scale set of data in large KC's numbers collected from Delta Wave Flume in the N...

Stochastic averaging for SDEs with Hopf Drift and polynomial diffusion coefficients

It is known that a stochastic differential equation (SDE) induces two probabilistic objects, namely a difusion process and a stochastic flow. While the diffusion process is determined by the innitesimal mean and variance given by the coefficients of the SDE, this is not the case for the stochastic flow induced by the SDE. In order to characterize the stochastic flow uniquely the innitesimal cov...

Refined BCF-type boundary conditions for mesoscale surface step dynamics

Deposition on a vicinal surface with alternating rough and smooth steps is described by a solid-on-solid model with anisotropic interactions. Kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) simulations of the model reveal step pairing in the absence of any additional step attachment barriers. We explore the description of this behavior within an analytic Burton-Cabrera-Frank (BCF)-type step dynamics treatment. Witho...
